Hi There, I’m Nate. I’m a second-entry student and founder of this amazing club. We’ve got a strong team, and we’re looking forward to the upcoming year! We’re adding all kinds of events and projects that I’m really excited to roll out.
My nursing intrests are diverse, but one thing remains constant. I want to continue to be challenged in whatever field I end up in, most likely emergency or intensive care. Somewhere the patient ratio is low, so that I can give the best nursing care I possibly can.
I graduated from Western University in 2009, with a double major in Medical Sciences, and Psychology. After that I took a year at the University of Guelph, learning and working in the cadaveric lab. Throughout all this time I started up a video & photography production company. I was lucky as my work took me from there to here, learning much about business, communications and leadership.
Deanna Bartlett Hendren
Vice President 2018-19
Hello! I’m Deanna. I’m a 2nd entry nursing student and will be (hopefully) graduating in 2019. I always knew I wanted to work in healthcare but was not sure exactly in what role. Now that I am here in the nursing program I could not imagine being anywhere else!
My ultimate goal for my nursing career is to become a nurse practitioner at my own nurse-led clinic. Before then, there’s lots that I would like to do. I would like to work in the ER and the OR. I am interested in mental health nursing, paediatrics, and nursing research. I am also passionate about working to improve healthcare accessibility and supporting disability rights.
Prior to attending York I was living in Ottawa. I went to the University of Ottawa for a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and was also working as as an ophthalmic medical technician. Outside of student life, I love sports and being active, food and craft beer, and most of all – birds (I have 5)!
This program is so much different from my last program – it is much more focused and intense. Thankfully I am so much closer with my classmates and have made many friends who have helped me survive so far! This sense of community has been a big factor in my success. My goal with 2NA is to continue to support this community so that we can be better together.
We preach client-centred care in our nursing practice and it is my hope to provide student-centred support in this group. Your wellbeing is just as important as your academics as are the connections you make that may support your future career.
We are here for only two short years, let’s make the most of them!
Lead Operating Officer
Former Academic Coordinator
I’ve been a member of the York community since 2008, dabbling in my varied academic interests. Those include human rights, equity studies, the political/social sciences, and psychology (the program that stuck). My clinical passions in nursing are cardiac and critical care. I hope through my role with 2NA that I can share my institutional knowledge with the next generation of Second-Entry Nursing Students. Off campus, I enjoy discovering new music and adventuring in the great outdoors.
Lead Cohort Representative
Hello! My name is Grace Wang. I am the Lead Cohort Representative (LCR) for 2NA and the 2nd year 2nd Entry representative for NSAY. Nice to meet you all!
I grew up in Brunei Darussalam and studied Physiology and Psychology at McGill University. I have always wanted to work in the healthcare field and quite recently discovered my passion in nursing! I enjoy learning about the biological mechanics of the human body, societal interactions and influences between human beings as well as the quality and delivery of health care in Canada!
As the LCR, I wish to represent, address and advocate for the needs of our cohort and to help students catch up on their nursing skills and knowledge. Please feel free to talk to me if you have any concerns or anxiety, especially in regards to time missed due to the most recent strike.
Hi there! I’m Nicole and I’m the Social Director for 2018/2019. I look forward to planning various events that are social, fun and give us hard-working nursing students a break from our studies! I have been a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) for the past seven years, and decided I wanted to do more for others and explore another area of healthcare, which is what brought me to nursing. The areas of nursing that interest me are Labour and Delivery, CCU/ICU and NICU. When I’m not buried in studies, you will find me running, enjoying a cold beer or playing Nintendo. I hope by being a part of 2NA I can help address the needs of our unique student population and make the next school year as memorable as possible.
